Branson Area Features

Enjoy the Show!

  By: Ladona Weathers

Since the 1960s, and even before, Branson has been a place where you could count on finding great entertainment. In the early days of Branson’s entertainment scene, you might head into a cave to see a show, but today’s Branson is filled with cutting-edge shows performed in state-of-the-art theaters. Though the venues might be a bit different, one thing has never changed… Branson is America’s top destination for live entertainment.

Legendary Branson Shows

Branson has been a music show mecca for decades. Some of the shows that made the Ozarks famous for entertainment are still being performed today. During the past several years, other long-running favorites have joined the original Branson shows on this legendary list of great entertainment. The Presley family began the first show on the famous Highway 76 strip and continue to entertain audiences nightly in this location. Audiences keep coming back year after year to see Presleys’ Country Jubilee; featuring the hilarious antics of Cecil and Herkimer along with the talented cast of singers and musicians that accompany the Presley family. Another legendary show is Branson’s Famous Baldknobbers. The Mabe family opened this first show in Branson along the banks of Lake Taneycomo. The show has been handed down through the family and continues today. The Hughes family was one of the first families to move to the Branson area to operate their show. The family has grown since those first days; in fact, they are now one of the largest performing families in the world! The Hughes Music Show features the Hughes family members in their Born to Entertain production, which is new for 2018! Speaking of performing families, the SIX show stars six real brothers who take musical entertainment to a whole new level and have quickly become legendary in Branson. Dubbed as "an orchestra of human voices" and "masters of showmanship,” these multi-talented brothers sound like a band. Another legendary Branson show is Legends in Concert. Known as the world’s greatest live tribute show, Legends in Concert continues to bring your favorite stars, past and present, to life on stage with their tribute performers who look and sound just like the real thing. Grand Jubilee at the Grand Country Music Hall is another show that audiences love year after year. The New South Quartet brings great harmonies, Jim Dandy will keep you laughing, and Jackie Brown and Mike Patrick round out the cast of talented performers. See this show once, and you’ll know why people keep coming back.

Cutting-Edge Branson Shows

In recent years, shows in Branson that are filled with jaw-dropping moments have exploded. Branson has become a location where producers come to launch new shows and try new effects. This is evident in productions such as Raiding the Country Vault at The Starlite Theatre. From the same producer as the multi-award-winning show Raiding the Rock Vault in Las Vegas (which will in be Branson for a limited run this year), Raiding the Country Vault brings you through the history of country music with some of the songwriters and stars who performed the songs first. Along with great storytelling, the lighting effects and video truly enhance the musical experience. Another jaw-dropping show at The Starlite Theatre is The Janice Martin Cirque Show. The Juilliard-trained Janice Martin is the world’s only acrobatic aerial violinist. Her epic production filled with cirque performers has a flying piano and illusions that will leave you on the edge of your seat. Audiences loved her premiere season in Branson last year, and they’ll be amazed by what’s new this year. The Haygood family has called Branson home for over 20 years. Each year, The Haygoods up the amazement with their special effects and talents rolled into one two-hour show. It doesn’t take long to see why they’re considered one of the audience favorites in Branson. We cannot talk about epic productions and not talk about the productions at Sight & Sound Theatres. This year, a new show for Branson is premiering: The Biblical story of Samson comes to life with stunning sets and costuming. You’ll feel immersed in the story as the heroic tale of Samson unfolds before you.

Musicals and Storytelling

A great story will stick with you long after you’ve heard it—that’s the power of a live stage musical. Million Dollar Quartet, the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, is inspired by the electrifying true story of the famed recording session where Sam Phillips, the "Father of Rock 'n' Roll," brought together icons Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins for one unforgettable night. The King’s Castle Theatre is synonymous with musicals. New Jersey Nights is a celebration of the music of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons and takes the audience on a nostalgic musical journey through the career of one of the biggest selling groups of all times. Direct from London England, Broadway’s Greatest Hits, is the smash hit that brings you fabulous, exciting highlights of the greatest Broadway musicals of the last 50 years. Another Branson location filled with fantastic story telling is the Little Opry Theatre inside the IMAX Entertainment Complex. Here you’ll find Smoke On The Mountain. Set in North Carolina in 1938, Smoke on the Mountain follows the Sanders Family Singers as they perform at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church's Saturday Night Gospel Sing. Meet a talented family... quirky, flawed and uniquely entertaining! Laugh at their crazy antics, sing along and witness a heartwarming conclusion that reminds us all what it means to be a family.

Family Shows

You will love the Amazing Pets show at Grand Country Music Hall. Featuring exciting acts and tricks from a troupe of skilled dogs and trained housecats, this show is a hit! Buckets N’ Boards at The Starlite Theatre is a hilarious and high-energy show chock-full of precise percussion, ridiculous songs, spectacular tap dancing, inventive instrumentation and unique musical talent.
