Myrtle Beach Area Features

Fun for the Whole Family

Photo Credit: Family Kingdom Amusement Park

Thrilling rides, interesting exhibits and even star-studded attractions have long captivated families in Myrtle Beach. These are the places where memories are made. Regardless of age, there is something everyone in your group will enjoy doing. Here are some of our favorite activities that give families fun opportunities to come together and enjoy each other’s company.

Amusement Parks

Younger children will have a blast at Family Kingdom Amusement Park. There are many carnival-style rides such as the Hurricane, which children who are at least three-and-a-half-feet tall can ride unaccompanied. And who doesn’t love the Log Flume water ride? There are even a few thrill rides for more adventurous patrons, including a long-standing staple of the Myrtle Beach cityscape, the Swamp Fox Roller Coaster. Built in 1966, this wooden coaster has entertained multiple generations with rickety turns and scream-inducing drops. Meanwhile, Wild Water & Wheels combines two types of fun in one location. After sliding down the Sidewinder waterslide, dry off and head to the race zone for go-karts, speed racers and more.

Water Parks

After checking out land-based rides at Family Kingdom, venture to their sister park—Splashes Water Park—to cool off. With everything from lazy rivers to advanced tubing slides, a day of joyful activities awaits. There’s even a splash pool for the little ones at this oceanfront attraction. Kids of all ages will also enjoy cooling off on wet rides throughout Myrtle Waves Water Park. Slide down chutes designed for speed or laze on a tube and travel down a winding “river.”

With five attractions in the Myrtle Beach area, the Ripley’s name has become synonymous with fun. The boardwalk alone hosts four Ripley’s amusements including: Believe it or Not! Odditorium, Moving Theater 5D, Marvelous Mirror Maze, and Ripley’s Haunted Adventure. Ripley’s became famous with its collection of bizarre artifacts from around the world. This location showcases over 200 strange items that will leave you questioning the natural world. Across town at Broadway at the Beach is Ripley’s Aquarium. Learn about creatures of the sea as you walk past the many tanks in which they reside.

Interactive Museums

Visit the Hollywood Wax Museum to meet amazing likenesses of famous icons from the past and present. Climb aboard the Black Pearl with Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow. Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock are waiting for Scotty to beam them up to the starship Enterprise—why not get your photo taken with them? Within the grip of Myrtle Beach’s “Great Ape” is a great place to pose for a memorable family photo.

If you have ventured around Broadway at the Beach, you probably noticed the upside-down building. It’s presumed to have been a “top-secret laboratory” transferred to Myrtle Beach when a tornado-harnessing experiment in the Bermuda Triangle went awry. Now, it houses WonderWorks—an interactive, educational experience with hours of activities geared primarily to older children and teens. You can be a human lightning rod or simulate flying in the 6D Extreme Motion Theater while watching Cosmic Coaster. Conquer new heights while zip-lining or by going on the Spacewalk (a glow-in-the-dark, three-story ropes course). Hours can be spent playing in WonderWorks!

In the evening, treat yourself to entertainment from the days of yore at Medieval Times. Dine like kings and queens while valiant knights joust and compete for the favor of a fair maiden. If life on the high seas as a scallywag appeals to you, try Pirates Voyage for dinner and an acrobatic performance. Complete with a turquoise lagoon, sea lions, mermaids and tropical birds, this swashbuckling adventure will transport you back to the time when no vessel was safe from the dreaded pirate, Blackbeard. Eat like a pirate, too! Multiple courses await you at these shows. If you’re not hungry, don’t worry—get a ticket to the Alabama Theatre,Theatre of the Republic, Legends in Concert or the Comedy Cabana for other forms of outstanding live stage entertainment.

Many more activities are available for families comprising all ages. Whichever you choose, be sure you make these memories together!
