What's New in Myrtle Beach?

  By: Jacquelyn Eurice

New and exciting events, attractions and businesses are always coming to the Grand Strand. And when it comes to staying “in the know,” Sunny Day Guide does the work for you. We’ll share the hottest news for 2018 so you can make the most of your visit to the region. Here’s what’s new in Myrtle Beach:

See the Blue Angels

The Myrtle Beach International Airport is thrilled to host the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels on April 28-29, 2018 at the first air show to grace the region in over a decade. The Wings Over Myrtle Beach Air Show will showcase the iconic blue and gold F-18s as they perform incredible aeronautical stunts high above onlookers. The Blue Angels will be joined by the U.S. Air Force’s F-16 Viper Demo Team, the Special Operations Command's aerial parachute demonstration team, historic planes and other performers. Attend this spectacular event to hear the sounds of freedom and witness amazing maneuvers in the sky.

Toby Keith Takes the Stage

Every year, the Carolina Country Music Fest presents quite a show with some of the best musicians in the nation—and 2018 is no exception. Along with fellow headliners the Zac Brown Band and Luke Bryan, Toby Keith will be performing this year! Keith’s music has earned him “No. 1 Country Artist of the Decade” and “No. 1 Country Songwriter of the Decade” from Billboard magazine and he has been inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Festival-goers may be treated to songs such as “Should’ve Been A Cowboy,” “Wacky Tobaccy” and “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue”—a song he wrote in response to the attacks on 9/11. The Carolina Country Music Fest has lined up other great artists including Brett Eldredge, Old Dominion, Chris Lane, and Cole Swindell. This town will be rockin’ June 7-10! Lovers of country music certainly have a lot to adore at this year’s festival!

Board the BrewBoat at Murrells Inlet

Gather a group of friends and head to Murrells Inlet to board the BrewBoat—a 15-passenger, very large paddleboat that launched its maiden voyage in the spring of 2017. With East Coast BrewBoat, the distance the boat covers is up to you. Up to 10 people can sit around the long bar with bicycle-style pedals under each seat. Work as a team to paddle around on the water—or you can cheat and use the motor. While you’re exercising feel free to partake of the (BYOB) beer, wine, and food you would like to bring along. They provide ice, cups, and coolers. Whether you’re old friends with everyone on the boat or a solo passenger on their way to making new friends over a beer or two, this is the ultimate party on the water!

New Rides at Pavilion Park

In 2017, a few new rides appeared at Pavilion Park at Broadway at the Beach. In addition to their classics, the park now has the Sea Side Swing, the anti-gravity Moonraker and other exciting attractions. However, a brand new and totally re-imagined family theme park will open at Broadway at the Beach in the summer of 2018. Monster Trucks and Tsunami are just a few of the exciting new attractions—but the giant Broadway 360 Observation Wheel will surely take center stage. Up to six people can share a gondola to ascend 118 feet into the sky. From there, take in the gorgeous view of the park and surrounding area.

Grand Opening!

Some cool new places are opening for business in the Grand Strand! At Barefoot Landing, a new restaurant district referred to as Dockside Village is opening with Lucy Buffett's LuLu’s as one of its star dining venues! In addition to serving up delicious Southern-influenced fare, a sandy beach, ropes course, arcade and LuLu’s Shag Beach Bar will be available to patrons at this 20,000 square foot dining attraction. In Market Common, 810 Bowling is stacking the pins. The owner of 710 Burgers Bocce Beer and Bowling purchased the former Piggly Wiggly and transformed it into a stellar bowling alley with an outstanding full-service restaurant, games, billiards and big-screen TVs. It’s a prime destination for fun, socializing, and delicious food and beverages.

Ripley’s Laser Strike

Watch out for Zombies! The walking undead creatures that seem to be taking over television, movies, and the minds of America have arrived in Myrtle Beach. At Ripley’s Haunted Adventure, you have to fight for your survival using your laser gun and sharp reflexes to fend off the zombies that roam the attraction in search of a “fleshy” meal. You never know what lurks around the corner at this scary adventure!
