Myrtle Beach Area Features

Making Family Memories

Vacations give families time to come together and enjoy each other’s company. Finding interesting things to do that everyone will love is the goal, but it can be hard to do. Here are some of our favorite activities that everyone is sure to like regardless of their age!

WonderWorks

If you’ve been by Broadway at the Beach, you probably noticed the upside-down building. It’s presumed to have been a “top-secret laboratory” transferred to Myrtle Beach when a tornado-harnessing experiment in the Bermuda Triangle went awry. Now, it houses WonderWorks—an interactive, educational experience with hours of activities geared primarily to older children and teens. You can be a human lightning rod or simulate flying in the 6D Theatre while watching Cosmic Coaster. Conquer new heights by zip-lining 50 ft. over the water or by going on the space walk (a glow-in-the-dark, three-story ropes course). Hours can be spent playing in WonderWorks!

Hollywood Wax Museum

Want to go star-gazing? We’re talking Hollywood Stars! A visit to the Hollywood Wax Museum will introduce you to amazing likenesses of famous icons from the past and present. Climb aboard the Black Pearl with Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow. Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock are waiting for Scotty to beam them up to the starship Enterprise—why not get your photo taken with them? Within the grip of Myrtle Beach’s “Great Ape” is a great place to pose for a memorable family photo.

And that’s not all! Located in the same building are Hannah’s Maze of Mirrors and a scary zombie adventure: Outbreak—Dread the Undead. Purchase an All Access Pass and experience all three attractions.

Pirates Voyage Dinner & Show

If life on the high seas as a scallywag appeals to you, try Pirates Voyage for dinner and an acrobatic performance. Complete with a turquoise lagoon, sea lions, mermaids and tropical birds, this swashbuckling adventure will transport you back to the time when no vessel was safe from the dreaded pirate, Blackbeard. Eat like a pirate, too! Four courses await those who witness the clash of the Crimson and Sapphire crews in a battle over the sea.

Ripley’s

With five attractions in the Myrtle Beach area, the Ripley’s name has become synonymous with fun. The boardwalk alone hosts four Ripley’s amusements including the Believe it or Not! Odditorium, which showcases over 200 strange artifacts and exhibits from around the world. If you’re daring enough, visit Ripley’s Haunted Adventure. Your adrenaline will be pumping as you make your way through the creepy corridors and around harrowing turns. Screaming here is perfectly normal… Another Ripley’s attraction that will stimulate your senses is the Moving Theater. With shows presented in 5D, you’ll experience the same twists, turns, and bumps as the animated characters in the films. At Ripley’s Marvelous Mirror Maze, LED lights and approximately 100 mirrors will distort your sense of direction. Everywhere you look, you’ll see your reflection. Can you find your way out? Across town at Broadway at the Beach is Ripley’s Aquarium. Learn about creatures of the sea as you walk past the many tanks in which they reside. Now, you can even take a glass bottom boat tour to see sharks and other fish from a new angle. Visit www.Ripleys.com/myrtlebeach to learn more.

Family Kingdom Amusement Park & Splashes Water Park

Younger children will have a blast at Family Kingdom Amusement Park. There are many carnival-style rides such as the Hurricane, which children who are at least three-and-a-half-feet tall can ride unaccompanied. And who doesn’t love the Log Flume water ride? There are even a few thrill rides for more adventurous patrons, including a long-standing staple of the Myrtle Beach cityscape, the Swamp Fox Roller Coaster. Built in 1966, this wooden coaster has entertained multiple generations with rickety turns and scream-inducing drops. Get the biggest bang for your buck by purchasing a wristband so you can ride all day. The neighboring water park, Splashes, can be added to your all-day pass for double the excitement.

Savannah’s Playground

Located off of Farrow Parkway is a playground that enables all children to play and have a great time outdoors. Savannah’s playground was built specifically for children with  special needs and offers ADA play sets, ropes courses, fitness trails, a gymnasium and more. Different sections of the park have playgrounds that are specifically geared to different age groups. The Savannah who inspired this facility has a story that will touch your heart. Read more about Savannah and her playground at savannahsplayground.org.

Other Attractions

Kids of all ages will enjoy cooling off on wet rides throughout Myrtle Waves Water Park. Slide down chutes designed for speed or laze on a tube and travel down a winding “river.” Meanwhile, Wild Water & Wheels combines two types of fun in one location. After sliding down the Sidewinder waterslide, dry off and head to the race zone for go-karts, speed racers and more. Broadway Grand Prix not only has a variety of racetracks, but also a miniature golf course, sky coaster and an arcade. In the evening, treat yourself to entertainment from the days of yore at Medieval Times. Dine like kings and queens while valiant knights joust and compete for the favor of a fair maiden.

If you prefer something more modern, Legends in Concert has been entertaining families in Myrtle Beach for over 20 years. Their 2017 lineup of tribute artists includes stars like Bruno Mars and Adele. Another must-see is Alabama Theatre's shows and concerts, which have been captivating your and old alike for over 24 years.

Many more activities are available for families comprising all ages. Whichever you choose, make sure you make these memories together!
