Myrtle Beach Area Features

Barefoot Landing

  By: Paula Beckham

A vacation on the coast just isn’t complete without visiting Barefoot Landing, South Carolina’s finest shopping, dining and entertainment destination. Located along the scenic Intracoastal Waterway in North Myrtle Beach, Barefoot Landing features shopping at more than 60 national retailers and eclectic boutiques, an impressive assortment of restaurants and eateries, and exciting entertainment and amusement options, all built over and around a central picturesque lake. You’ll enjoy exploring it all from sidewalks and boardwalks that take you throughout the property and give the place a genuine village feeling.

Fashionistas will discover plenty to make them happy at Barefoot Landing. National retailers like Chico’s and White House/Black Market, both known for classy, casual apparel, keep company with the local Tara Grinna Swimwear, a leader in swimwear for 25 years. A wide array of specialty shops feature shoes, jewelry, sunglasses, hats and more, including home decor, giftware, and souvenirs.

Hungry? This is the right place. Barefoot Landing has more than a dozen restaurants, many of them overlooking the water. Choices range from burgers, BBQ, and pizza to upscale dining at Greg Norman’s Australian Grille. Enjoy American cuisine at TBonz, Italian at Umberto’s and the colorful Castano’s Italian Steakhouse, and lots of seafood at Joe’s Crab Shack and Flying Fish Public Market & Grill.

If a snack is what you crave, you’ll find everything from soft pretzels and candy to ice cream and beef jerky, and Barefoot Landing has plenty of benches where you can sit and enjoy them.

If live music’s on your mind, Alabama Theatre is your ticket. The house show, One The Show, is a favorite of locals and visitors, and its quality rivals anything you might see in New York or Las Vegas. A guest artist concert series brings in performers like The Temptations and Josh Turner.

You can eat while you’re entertained nearby at the House of Blues, a high-energy environment where the performers and food are both outstanding.

If low-key activity is more your style, consider a cruise on the Barefoot Princess Riverboat, Myrtle Beach’s only tour and dinner riverboat. Cruises are fun and educational, and there’s plenty to see along the Intracoastal Waterway.

Among other attractions at Barefoot Landing is Alligator Adventure, one of the largest reptile zoos in the world. It is home to more than 700 ‘gators and crocodiles along with exotic birds, snakes and more.

Summer nights at Barefoot Landing are extra special. SummerFest, which runs from June 1 through September 2, features musical entertainment as well as fun for the kids. A spectacular fireworks display lights the sky every Monday at 9:30pm.

Barefoot Landing is located at 4898 Hwy. 17 S., North Myrtle Beach and opens at 10am daily. For more information, call 843-272-8349 or visit
