Myrtle Beach Area Features

The Market Common

  By: Paula Beckham

No trip to Myrtle Beach would be complete without a visit to The Market Common, a vibrant urban lifestyle village that’s home to more than 40 shops, 11 restaurants and several entertainment venues. It’s a fresh, fun place to shop, dine and play!

You’ll be immediately drawn to the tree-lined streets, wide sidewalks accented with urns of colorful flowers, and rocking chairs and benches strategically placed to capture the shade. Bubbling fountains add to the ambience, and there’s even a play area for kids. Park the car and explore it all!

Shoppers will love the variety of stores, which includes nationally known brands like Pottery Barn, Anthropologie, Chico’s, Orvis and others, side-by-side with local retailers, offering a wide range of wares from apparel and accessories to home decor, sporting goods, books and more.

A new favorite this year is the Southern Living store, the first of its kind in the nation. Presented in a “Celebrate the South” theme, the store features licensed Southern Living products in fashion, food, home, garden and travel. It’s a must for those who aspire to the Southern lifestyle.

The Market Common’s selection of eateries is equally impressive. Choices include Italian, Asian and American cuisines. You’ll also find great pizza, prime steaks, tapas, award-winning handcrafted beers and sweet treats.
Catch all the hottest movies at Grand 14 Cinema, Myrtle Beach’s most comfortable theater with wall-to-wall screens and 2,600 luxury stadium seats. Live community productions can be found at Stage Left Theatre, an intimate 55-seat venue. High quality local art is the star at Seacoast Artists Gallery.

With all it has to offer, The Market Common is also home to special events and celebrations throughout the year. One of the biggest is “A Southern Times Square,” which draws thousands to help ring in the New Year. Complimentary outdoor movies, concerts and carriage rides are offered at various times depending on the season. Current schedules are available from Visitor Information and on the website.

While you’re here, be sure to check out Warbird Park, a tribute to the Myrtle Beach Air Force Base that occupied this real estate from 1941 until 1993. Featuring several old fighter aircraft, the park is dedicated to the men and women of the U.S. Air Force. Street names in The Market Common—Shine, Phillis, Deville, Farrow and more—honor former base commanders and other notable Air Force members who served here. Historical markers in the park provide more background on the former base and its mission.

The Market Common is located at the south end of Myrtle Beach and can be accessed from both Highways 17, Business and Bypass. For more information, call 843-839-3500 or visit www.MarketCommonMB.com.
