Ocean City Area Features

Ocean City Center for the Arts

Among the places you’ll want to visit while you’re in town is the Ocean City Center for the Arts, located on 94th Street bayside. The home of the non-profit Art League of Ocean City, this beautiful facility has welcomed over 70,000 people since its opening in 2013. Follow the blue water tower displaying the Art Center’s logo, and you’ll find a gem of an experience next to the bay. Admission is free!

The Ocean City Center for the Arts is a place where people come together to create art, explore art, experience culture, and connect with each other. It’s an ideal destination for those who want to enjoy something away from the beach, yet still conveniently close by.

Always on view are exhibits of original artwork by local and regional artists, including paintings, sculpture, pottery, photography, fiber arts, jewelry, and much more. Most of the artwork is for sale so you can take home a lasting Ocean City memory.

Art exhibits change every month, and each exhibit opens with a free public reception, generally on the First Friday of the month from 5-7 pm, with complimentary refreshments. For the months of July and August 2017, the Thaler gallery will feature a special exhibit by accomplished artist and Maryland’s First Lady, Yumi Hogan.
If you want an immersive experience, take an art class. There are all kinds to choose from, including painting, drawing, pottery, fiber arts, mosaics, and other arts.

They also offer classes designed just for children and families. Many of the classes require no prior art expehttp://sunnydayguide.com/admin/editorial.php?edit_id=108&step_1=1rience and some include supplies, so you can drop in.

Another event you’ll want to mark on your calendar is the annual Plein Air event, Aug. 9-13, 2017, when 50 artists take to the streets, beaches and boardwalks to paint favorite scenes. Watch them paint around town, then attend the “Wet Paint” sale on Saturday Aug. 12 from 6-8pm at the Art Center to purchase an original. On Sunday morning Aug. 13, the artists will gather on the boardwalk at South Division Street, and compete in a 2-hour painting competition, after which they will sell their freshly painted work right off their easels. This is a great opportunity to take home a piece of Ocean City that will last forever!

In addition to the regular schedule of art classes for kids, a popular Art Adventure Camp is offered in partnership with the town of Ocean City Recreation and Parks department for children ages 6-14 from July 10 to  Aug 6. Campers participate in a variety of creative projects and each 4-day session culminates in an art show.

The most popular event of the year is the 13th annual “Sand Castle Home Tour” on Friday and Saturday Sept. 22-23, 2017. Ten fabulous homes in the area open their doors to the public on this self-guided tour. Visit Artleagueofoceancity.org or call 410-524-9433 for tickets and reservations.

Galleries are open Monday thru Friday 9am to 4pm, Saturday and Sunday 11am to 4pm, with extended evening hours for classes and receptions at 502 94th Street, Ocean City. Stop by and see how  Art is for Everyone!
