Ocean City Area Features

Odyssea Watersports

  By: Leah Lancione

Celebrating 20 years in business, Odyssea Watersports is a household name to locals and regular visitors to Ocean City. The family-owned and -operated watersports rental company started out with the goal of making customer service and safety the top priority and have maintained that emphasis—even through remarkable growth and success.  Owners Ron Croker, Melissa Croker Clemens and her husband, Justin Clemens, hold the company to a high standard to ensure that family comes first… and that clients feel like part of the family.

“When our clients go out on the water, we picture in our minds that it’s a family out there and therefore take the extra steps to make sure they have a safe experience,” says Melissa. “We know people are on vacation and want to have fun, but safety has to come first.”

Putting safety first means setting the bar high. All guides are certified by the Department of Natural Resources and also undergo vigorous in-house training on all safety policies and regulations. “We take safety very seriously, so employees are all pre-screened and extremely well-trained,” says Melissa.

“We know family vacation time is special. It’s an honor for us to help clients make lasting memories,” says Melissa, who gives a lot of credit to her dad and husband for being “the heart and soul of the company.” She says the face of the company may have changed over the years with new family members learning the ropes, more employees, and an added location, but the goal has stayed the same: “We strive to meet the changing needs of our clients.” She reflects on how seamless it is now for clients to book their activities online!

Booking an activity is the easy part. The difficulty lies in deciding whether to rent a jet ski, pontoon boat (that features 60 horsepower 4-stroke motors and can accommodate up to 14 passengers), a single or tandem kayak, or a standup paddleboard. Last year the company introduced Night Time Paddleboard Tours once a week. This “glow tour” involves an instructor-led outing on the water made possible by glow necklaces and paddleboards rigged with underwater lights. “It’s a fun experience for people of all ages to be taken out of their comfort zone for an adventure at night!” admits Melissa.

Adrenaline junkies looking for a thrill can hop on the fastest, top-of-the-line watercrafts and into the largest riding area in Ocean City. Also equipped to show families with youngsters a good time, Odyssea Watersports has a family friendly beach with picnic tables and allows family members to take turns. Melissa reveals that family is the core of everything Odyssea Watersports stands for—even two of her own children (ages 12 and 14) help out with the paddleboards in the summertime.

Odyssea Watersports is open to customers mid-April through early to mid-October, but the official opening day is May 15. Odyssea Watersports is located at 5003c Coastal Highway and 50th St. Bayside. A second location, Action Watersports, is two blocks north at 52nd St. Bayside.
