Ocean City Area Features

Chill Out with Indoor Entertainment

After a couple of days of playing in the hot summer sun, it may be wise to spend some time indoors. Your skin might like the break… Plus, it’s always nice to have rainy day options while on vacation. Sunny Day Guide has a few ideas for those who are looking to “beat the heat!”

Enjoying family activities together instills cherished memories that last a lifetime. Ocean City offers a variety of indoor recreational opportunities that require active participation. When was the last time the parents challenged the kids in a game of laser tag or played some vintage arcade games like skee ball and air hockey? Sometimes it takes a vacation to remember how much fun these things can be. At Planet Maze, the family will have a lot of fun engaging in some friendly competition while getting some beneficial exercise. In addition to their exciting and futuristic laser tag course, an arcade and kids’ climbing maze are also available. At Escapomania, teens and adults can work together to try to escape the room before the time on the clock expires. Can you do it? This activity requires teamwork and thought and it is a blast! Now, there is even a virtual-reality escape room at their 2nd Street location.

For those who like bone-chilling thrills, step into Ocean City Screams for a haunted house adventure aboard the S.S. Steelhead. As legend has it, the ship was lost at sea during a perfect storm. Fifty years later it emerged and was towed to Ocean City, Maryland. Apparently, its crew still haunts the ship—terrifying the investigators you’ll join on a tour of its two decks. Your senses will be stunned while actors and animatronics burst out around you and sights and smells seep into your soul. This is not for the faint of heart (or those under 13 years) but if you like to be terrified, then prepare to come aboard.

With three attractions in the Ocean City area, the Ripley’s name has become synonymous with fun as well as famous for its collection of bizarre artifacts from around the world. Be amazed at the weird and unusual items you’ll see on display at Ripley’s Believe it or Not! Odditorium. You will probably leave questioning the natural world around you. Continue the excitement as you try to weave your way through the Impossible LaseRace or find your way out of the Marvelous Mirror Maze. With three attractions at one location, a full day of entertainment awaits.

Catching a movie is the classic rainy day activity. And there are a couple of movie theaters in the area that show the latest films. One, Fox Gold Coast Theatre, is in central Ocean City at 113th Street. Those who are staying farther north can visit the Sun & Surf Cinema near the Maryland and Delaware border. These large multiplexes present over a dozen films with ample seating for groups and parties. Laugh, cry, scream, or sigh with a feature film of your choosing.

The variety of stores located in Ocean City is seemingly endless and the items they carry are plentiful. There are so many great gifts to purchase for family and friends… and especially for ourselves. For instance, it could be fun to visit the outlets and get a new outfit for a romantic night out or a bathing suit for the beach. Custom products that are unique to the Maryland shore such as pieces of art, fashionable OC jewelry or even a box of saltwater taffy are wonderful remembrances of a fantastic vacation. There are even specialty stores that sell things collectors may enjoy such as Ocean City Christmas ornaments, Maryland flag paraphernalia, or unique growlers for beer connoisseurs (you can even have them filled with locally produced beer!) The possibility of finding something wonderful is limitless. Enjoy browsing through the shops that are found in every town and on every island until you stumble on that perfect something that piques your interest.

Finally, there’s no better way to chill out than at an indoor ice-rink. Stop by the Carousel Oceanfront Hotel on 118th Street to take a few spins around the ice. In the evenings during the summer (except Fridays), catch an ice dance performance from skaters known as The Next Ice Age. Dining alongside the rink is offered during their show!

So when you need a break from the heat or cover from the rain and would like to do something indoors, remember that Ocean City has many options for you. It’s certainly easy to have a lot of fun in indoor comfort in this fabulous beach town!
