Ocean City Area Features

What’s New in Ocean City?

One of the Best!

Southern Living magazine recently posted “The South’s Best Beaches 2018” and sure enough, Ocean City, Maryland was honored as one of the best! With its wide clean beaches, fabulous food finds, and iconic boardwalk, it’s clear why this family-friendly destination made the cut!

Archives and Artifacts Exhibit

Every month in 2018, new exhibits are on display at the Ocean City Life-Saving Station Museum. This year, the museum’s archives and artifacts are coming out of storage and are being grouped into fascinating themes. One month was “The Storm of 1962,” featuring photographs and newspaper articles about one of the most destructive natural storms to hit Ocean City. Another month was “Violets are Blue,” remembering the 1985 movie that was filmed in the area and starred Kevin Kline and Sissy Spacek. June’s theme was “Hook, Line, and History: The Story of Commercial and Sport Fishing in Ocean City.” This exhibit showed how fishing has been a large part of Ocean City’s identity for decades. The sport shaped local culture, provided a livelihood for many, and brought forth tourism. Visit the museum to discover a cool new exhibit fresh from the museum’s archives or go online to www.ocmuseum.org to find out what is currently on display.

Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Odditorium Grand Reopening

If you’re a fan of the strange and unusual exhibits that can be seen at Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Odditorium, you’re in for a treat! In March 2018, the museum celebrated a grand reopening with a whole new look and upgraded galleries. In addition, new and fascinating objects have been procured and are going on display! Stop by to see some cool—yet perhaps unexplained—exhibits and attractions at Ripley’s Believe it or Not! Odditorium.

Don’t Miss the Bus!

The easiest way to get around Ocean City is by taking the bus. It’s inexpensive, safe, and frequently where you need it to be. However, with the new TransLoc Rider app (available on Google Play or the iStore), you can track the bus’s movement and know precisely when it will be at a stop near you. This app is widely used nationwide, so even if you’re not on an Ocean City vacation, this app may prove useful in other locations. Don’t waste your time sitting at a bus stop when you may in fact have time to grab a sweet snack before the bus arrives!

Pay-By-Plate Parking

Technology is not only making it easier to catch the bus, but it’s also providing new conveniences for those who prefer to drive around town. With solar-powered pay-by-plate parking kiosks, visitors no longer need to display a paper ticket verifying parking payments. Instead, they just enter their license plate number. Time can be extended at the kiosk, or the ParkMobile app can extend your parking time on your cell phone. Plus, at the Inlet parking lot, the gates will be removed in favor of the kiosks and traffic won’t be tied up waiting for payments to be accepted. Hopefully, this system will make parking in Ocean City a little easier and more environmentally friendly.

The newest attraction in Ocean City gives speed demons a place to race. Located at Grand Prix Amusements, ProTrack opened in 2017 and features the fastest go-karts in Ocean City. Riders must be 16 or older and 58” tall to operate the karts since the ProTrack isn’t just a ride—it’s a race!
