Ocean City Area Features

Thanks to a calendar that’s packed with fun activities all year ‘round, Ocean City is a great place to take in a festivall.

The hum of classic engines ushers in the summer, with the Ocean City Car and Truck Show, June 10 & 11. The OC Car and Truck Show at the Roland E. Powell Convention Center is one of the largest custom car and truck shows in the country, with more than 700 vehicles and vendors.

In the following week, experience military strength and aerial acrobatics at the Ocean City Air Show, June 17-18.  Witness modern and vintage planes showcasing the current and historic marvels of military aviation in the skies above. Fat Albert, the U.S. Navy’s C-130, will perform a routine that demonstrates its massive size and strength before the famous Blue Angels zoom in to take the stage. These F/A-18 Hornets work together in high-speed precision, performing stunts and impressively tight formations. The Blue Angels never cease to impress! Interactive exhibits, simulators, and food and merchandise vendors are there for the enjoyment of those on the ground. It’s not only a patriotic event, it’s pure exhilaration for spectators of all ages.

Art is in focus at Northside Park at 125th St. & the Bay on June 24 & 25, as more than 100 artists display and sell their treasures at the 17th annual Arts Alive event. Have lunch, enjoy music, and check out free educational and artistic activities for children Sat. and Sun. from 9am-5pm.

As always, Ocean City is a wonderful place to celebrate Independence Day weekend, with events on the beach and the bay. The Fourth of July Celebration brings entertainment, games, food and a giant fireworks display to Northside Park at 125th St. & the Bay. The fun begins at 8pm with a live concert followed by fireworks at 9:30pm. On the ocean side, the celebration kicks off at 8pm with a Concert on the Beach at North Division St. Fireworks will follow at 9:30pm.

Motorcycle enthusiasts will not want to miss OC BikeFest, Sept. 14-17. There will be live music, entertainment and fun at three locations: the Inlet, the Convention Center, and the Boardwalk. This year’s BikeFest headline performers will be on the Ocean Stage at the Inlet.

Summer may officially end the third week in September, but it’s hard to tell in Ocean City, as the resort’s biggest festival, Sunfest, kicks off on Sept. 21. Sunfest features fine art, distinctive crafts, performers on two stages, and a variety of food vendors. Children’s activities include hayrides and inflatables on the beach. Evening headline entertainers require tickets, available on Ticketmaster.com, or at 800-626-2326.

The Sunfest Kite Festival starts Sept. 21 between 3rd St. and 6th St. on the beaches and Boardwalk. The festival includes a children’s workshop, kite battles and the East Coast’s premier sport kite competition. Master kite flyers showcase their talents Thur.-Sun., 10am-9pm.

Visit the Inlet Lot on Sept. 29 or 30 from 11am-7pm to experience the 22nd  Annual Winefest! This “Wine on the Beach” event offers samplings of favorites including Merlot, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir as well as less popular (but very delicious) varietals such as Petit Cab, Vidal Blanc, and Chambourcin. A few microbreweries will be at the event for those who prefer beer, and regional cuisine will be available for sale. Bring a lawn chair to relax in while sipping wine and enjoying musical entertainment from local recording artists. Browse handmade crafts and paintings for sale or just catch up with friends over a nice bottle of wine. General Admission tickets are $35 at the gate for those 21 and over. Additional information, participating vendors and entertainment, and ticket prices and guidelines for those under age 21 can be found at www.winefest.com or by calling the Wine Line at 410-280-3306.

Hot rods will be in town Columbus Day weekend as the 17th Annual Endless Summer Cruisin’, beginning Oct. 6, brings over 2,000 hot rods, customs and classic cars to the resort. Admission is charged for this 4-day event.

On Oct. 29 from 1-3pm, kids of all ages can don their favorite costume and attend the Halloween Spook-Out Party in the gym at the Northside Park Recreation Complex on 125th Street. Each attending child can enjoy hayrides, games, contests, and snacks by bringing a bag of individually wrapped candy. Costume contests for different age groups will be taking place, so come dressed in your best character outfit. For more information call 410-250-0125.

Ocean City really shines Nov. 16-Jan. 1, when Winterfest of Lights brings dazzling lights to locations throughout the town for the holidays. Tour the tunnel of lights and the Inlet and see the old-fashioned lighted wreaths along city streets. Northside Park at 125th St. & the Bay is a must-see, with hundreds of animated lighted displays. Browse the gift shop, have a photo taken with Santa, and sip hot chocolate in the heated, decorated tent while you wait to tour the lights on a tram for a small fee.

Entry to many of these events are with paid admission, so please visit www.ococean.com/events or call 800-OC-OCEAN for information on prices, parking, hours, and more.
