Coastal Delaware Area Features

Shopping Around Coastal Delaware

Delaware is a great place to go shopping! There’s no sales tax, plenty of stores to choose from, and great discounts to be found. Step into some of the local shops where you can easily find new outfits, beautiful gifts for your loved ones, or cool souvenirs of a fantastic vacation to take home.

Outlet Shopping

The desire to get a great deal drives people to outlet malls year-round. At Tanger Outlets in Rehoboth, you can find some of the nation's top designers and shop for the latest styles and everyday clothing. The entire family will love this retail destination for everything they could possibly need: clothes, toys, home décor, sports equipment, jewelry, and even specialty food items. There are over 130 brands at Tanger Outlets including Gap, Calvin Klein, Coach and Forever 21 where you can spend your time wandering the aisles and browsing the clothing racks.

Boutique Stores

Stroll along the beautiful streets of downtown Rehoboth to find a nice selection of boutique stores. Many people lose themselves in Browseabout Books as they explore the store’s vast collection looking for new novels to add to their personal libraries. Wander into The Spice & Tea Exchange to add a little zest to your life—literally! This fragrant store has a large assortment of teas and spices to give your taste buds a bit of pizzazz. Need some oil to help prepare that perfectly seasoned dish? No problem! Visit The Olive Orchard Tasting Room to find a high-quality plain or flavored olive oil to accompany your recipe. Vinegars—also flavored or regular—are available for purchase as well. Be sure to taste some free samples to figure out what you like before you buy a bottle.

Alley Shopping

Steps away from Rehoboth’s oceanfront, between Rehoboth and Wilmington Avenues, is a quaint side path called Penny Lane. Here, visitors will find shops selling unusual items, handmade goods and delicious food. Purchase a crepe and a coffee before beginning your shopping excursion into stores that sell antique toys, sunglasses and more. Unique beach shops sell art made from sea glass and other locally crafted goods. A few blocks north lies The Shops at Rehoboth Mews on Baltimore Avenue. Like Penny Lane, this little alleyway is lined with independently owned stores that sell eclectic and interesting items. In Rehoboth, some of the best goods are in the back alley!

Art lovers should definitely visit Bethany Beach to find a new piece for their home. Gallery One on Atlantic Avenue not only showcases work by local artists in varying mediums, but the gallery is actually staffed by them. Journey west for a mile on Atlantic Avenue to visit the Ellen Rice Gallery. This artist captures the natural beauty of Delaware in her paintings. Browse through the corridors of these galleries before picking out a piece to add to your art collection.

Farm Fresh Produce

The rich farmland on the peninsula creates produce of exceptional quality and freshness. Stop by one of the many farm stands on the way to the beaches to stock your beach bag with flavorful fruits and vegetables to enjoy while lounging in the sun. In-season berries are wonderful, healthy snacks that won’t add extra inches to your bathing suit-ready physique! On select days, Farmers Markets come to town. In Bethany Beach on Sundays and Rehoboth on Tuesdays, you’ll see tents set up and vendors selling fresh produce along the streets in the downtown areas.

Antiques and New Treasures

In the warmer months in Delaware, yard sales, craft shows, and flea markets pop-up like fresh flowers after a soaking rain. And if one man’s trash is another man’s treasure, this is the place to find that treasure. It’s hard to pass a corner without seeing tables full of items just waiting for a new home. With a little love, some of these older items can sparkle again. For a location that is brimming with antiques, visit Heritage Antiques in the historic town of Lewes. Here, you’ll find a large variety of items in good condition—everything from tea sets to wardrobes. Stop in and be wowed by the store’s eclectic collection of pieces from the past.

As your trip nears its end, you may want to start searching for a small token to take home. Affordable gifts and souvenirs can be found at stores such as Rehoboth’s Seashell Shop. Choose from beach-themed items such as those featuring lighthouses, sea life, and shorebirds that will remind you of quality time on Delaware’s coast. In Bethany Beach, stop in to Rhodes 5 & 10 for beach items such as old-fashioned umbrellas with wooden poles or rafts you can use on your trip and for years to come. The store rents its beach equipment if you don’t feel the need to make a purchase. The Seaside Country Store is the perfect place to go for a nice gift or souvenir. This huge building has a large selection of merchandise grouped into various themes including pets, nautical or tropical. They also have a section for specialty foods. The cheese spreads are very popular! If you would like to get a sweet gift for someone back home, some homemade fudge from Candy Kitchen is just the thing. Their decadent treats are a great way to thank someone for watching the pets, plants and the house while you were away—or a nice indulgence for yourself!
