Virginia Beach Area Features

Rudee Inlet

Off the beaten path in a small alcove lies Rudee Inlet. Locals know this area on the southern end of Virginia Beach well. Here, boaters, diners, and activity seekers are welcomed to a harbor of entertainment. Take a dolphin boat tour, go paddleboarding, or work up an appetite fishing or jet skiing on the water. Then, stroll into one of the local restaurants to feast on a delicious meal while enjoying fabulous views of the inlet. Warm breezes and spectacular sunsets make your dining experience unforgettable!

If you love water sports, Rudee Inlet Jet Ski Rentals is the place for you. Family owned and operated since 1985, they provide the most exciting watersport choices in the resort area and the most up-to-date equipment. With the largest riding area and the shortest distance to the ocean, you can jet over waves on a solo Waverunner or rent one to ride with a friend or two. Take the family out on a sport boat for the day or rent a kayak to leisurely explore the inlet. Rudee Inlet Jet Ski Rentals is also home to awesome Banana Boat Rides. You won’t be able to wipe the smile off your face while aboard a banana boat. They even offer paddleboard rentals and lessons at their kiosk next to Big Sam’s Restaurant.

For more fun on the water, check out Rudee Tours. Located at the Virginia Beach Fishing Center, they offer the largest fleet in Virginia Beach with several boating adventures to choose from. Thrill seekers can take off on the Rudee Rocket—wet, wild fun! Aboard this vessel, passengers will love the view and the experience of racing through the waters of the Atlantic Ocean at top speeds. Wear a swimsuit, bring your camera and get ready for adventure. However, if you prefer a more leisurely tour, go aboard the Rudee Flipper to witness the awesome sights and sounds of the sea. Delight in watching bottlenose dolphins and other marine life on a day or sunset cruise. Plus, both vessels will guarantee dolphin sightings or the next ride is free.

Rudee Mariner & Rudee Angler make it possible for any family to enjoy dropping a line in the Atlantic year-round. Cast a line and see what you can catch on a fishing expedition. Choose a full-day, half-day or night-fishing trip in a comfortable, air-conditioned boat. The custom-built boats, are complete with a few modern luxuries to make your trip more enjoyable and everything is supplied, even the fishing license!

Big-game enthusiasts can also choose to take an offshore charter with AquaMan Sportfishing. Families or groups of 6 to18 members can try to wrangle with hooked sharks and marlin or catch tuna that weighs in at over 200 lbs. On inshore charters, anglers can reel in a delicious rockfish or flounder for the evening’s dinner. And, even if you have no fishing experience, don’t worry because Captain Nolan and crew provide a great atmosphere on the boat—especially for families with children.

Want to see Virginia Beach from a fantastic and memorable vantage point? Pirate Parasail takes you soaring above the Virginia Beach oceanfront. Maintaining a perfect safety record, their U.S. Coast Guard-licensed captain and crew will make your trip a vacation highlight. One-, two- or three-person flights are available and they have multiple heights from which to choose. It’s fun for the entire family, and you can’t beat the view.

For another great high-altitude view, visit Adventure Parasail. They are Virginia Beach’s original parasail company since 1985. Their experienced U.S. Coast Guard Master Captains and professional crew do everything for you. They have a perfect safety record with thousands of satisfied customers. There are no age limits and no skills are required to take a single, double or triple flight. Fly 600, 800, or even 1,000 feet if you dare! Gentle takeoffs and landings from the boat are dry, but there is no extra charge for “dipping” or “water-walking.” Stay dry or get wet, it’s your choice.

Ahoy there, me hearties and climb aboard the pirate ship, Lost Pearl, for a family fun adventure on the high seas! With Capt. Jack’s Pirate Ship Adventure everyone will be entertained with lots of interactive “pirate” fun while searching for Blackbeard’s ghost and stolen treasure. Snacks and beverages are available on board, including a full bar for the big pirates. Adults—don’t despair as there is fun for you as well, with weekend “Parrot Head” and “Club 21+” party cruises! The Pirate Ship is docked at Inlet Station Marina on Mediterranean Ave.

After all of this excitement and activity on the water, it’s time to refuel the body. There are two restaurants in Virginia Beach that locals will say are definitely worth a visit: Rockafeller’s Restaurant and Rudee’s on the Inlet.

At Rockafeller’s Restaurant, you are invited to sit back, relax and enjoy the view, especially since they offer one of the best views of the inlet. Noted for their fresh seafood, oysters Rockafeller and no-filler crab cakes, Rockafeller’s has been satisfying people’s appetites for over 20 years! They offer plenty of specials including Early Bird Specials, their Monday night Prime Rib Special, and Thursday night “Maine Event” with two 1-lb. whole Maine lobsters. Start your Sunday off right with brunch. Perhaps a crab benedict and a Bloody Mary will set the tone for a Sunday-fun day. Don’t forget to #RockaFoodShot and share a photo of your favorite Rockafeller’s dish with friends!

Rudee’s on the Inlet Restaurant & Cabana Bar has three outside decks all overlooking scenic Rudee Inlet—plus their “always happening” outdoor Cabana Bar where you can watch the sunset from their gliding tables. The restaurant offers diners fresh seafood from Virginia’s coast and an outstanding raw bar. Whether you crave she-crab soup, steamed shrimp, a juicy sirloin, or an overstuffed sandwich, Rudee’s is the place to go. For indoor/outdoor dining, Rudee’s on the Inlet is a “must visit” for lunch, dinner and even Sunday brunch.

So, whether it’s exciting adventure, fun on the water, or a good meal that you crave, come to Rudee Inlet and experience the good things in life. It’s a one-stop destination just around the corner from the oceanfront with easy access by foot, car or bike. Just follow 5th Street, which becomes Winston Salem Ave., back into the inlet. Rudee Inlet is a perfect mini vacation spot—all by itself.
