Virginia Beach Area Features

Go Have an Adventure… Together!

If your family or group is seeking new adventures, look no further—Virginia Beach is teeming with great activities for everyone. Some are daring, others are relaxing, but all are tons of fun. Read on for a few we recommend!

Enjoy Family Amusements & Fun

At Motor World not only will your heart be racing, but the rest of your body will be as well. Here, families can compete against each other on a choice of 11 tracks. Test your driving agility while maneuvering around sharp turns on the Grand Prix Track and the Super 8 slick track, or watch younger children race on the kiddie tracks. Afterwards, have a splashing good time on Ocean Breeze Waterpark’s refreshing rides such as the twisting Paradise Pipeline slide or while on a tube and under waterfalls on the Jungle Falls.

Play from New Heights

Adventure seekers will have a blast zip-lining and climbing through obstacles high above the treetops. At The Adventure Park at the Virginia Aquarium, test your agility on the rope courses of varying difficulty. Cross over bridges made of suspended planks before zip-lining to the next challenge along the trail. Varying courses have different difficulty levels, so challenging climbs can be had by first-timers and “frequent flyers” alike. Even those with a fear of heights will find this to be an enjoyable and safe way to conquer their phobia. Climb to platforms that extend to 50 feet in height and navigate your way through strategically placed hurdles that are both mentally and physically challenging. Once you reach the zip lines, you just glide safely to the ground below.

To further test your ability to conquer heights, get your wings at iFly! This indoor skydiving facility allows you to defeat the force of gravity. Instructors will help you take flight in a perfectly safe environment. Definitely add the high-flying flight to your experience—it’s the best part!

Take to the Sea

Take a short 15-minute trip into Norfolk and join the Victory Rover or the American Rover for a cruise on the Elizabeth River. You’ll see ships docked at Naval Station Norfolk and learn some fun facts about the area that you’ll see from the boat. Or, to really get a glimpse of sailing aboard a military vessel, take a tour with Patriotic Excursions. On this excursion, you take to the water on an authentic boat used by the Navy SEALS. Low- and high-speed experiences are available. You choose your mission.

If fishing or partying on the water interests you, reserve a time for your group on First Landing Charters. Located on Shore Drive, Captain Jay offers an array of charter tours based on your interests—everything from wildlife tours to bachelorette parties. But their most popular charters are their fishing expeditions. Climb aboard the Susan C for an awesome adventure on the water.

It may not leave the dock, but a list of local boating adventures would not be complete without a tour of the Battleship Wisconsin. Located in Norfolk at Nauticus, this impressive vessel served in the Pacific arena during WWII and even supported landing operations at Iwo Jima. Constructed in Philadelphia beginning in 1941, the ship’s speed and agility kept her afloat despite partaking in many battles during her illustrious 47-year career, including Desert Storm. Today she is open for tours, and visitors can imagine Navy life during wartime while aboard the Wisconsin.

Try for a Hole-in-One

A rousing game of mini-golf can be tons of fun for everyone—even if you have a hard time getting the ball in the hole. There are many courses of varying themes at the oceanfront. The young and “mature” alike will have a blast chasing after vibrantly colored golf balls in friendly competition. Putt around wild animals at Jungle Golf, steer clear of the obstacles and waterfalls at Shipwreck Golf, or play under the sea at King Neptune's 3-D Blacklight Mini-Golf. Whether you’re par for the course or way over, it doesn’t matter in the end—it’s all about having family fun together!

For those who would like to play on an actual18-hole golf course in a natural environment, Virginia Beach has a few to choose from. Red Wing Lake Golf Course has an easy-enough layout for beginners but enough doglegs and interesting designs for budding pros. Not only is the scenery nice and the greens properly maintained, but the price structure at this public course is very reasonable. In fact, many locals have made Red Wing Lake their home course and become members.

Whatever means of excitement you pick, you are sure to have a fun-filled and adventurous time!
