Williamsburg Area Features

The Original Ghosts of Williamsburg

As you join your tour guide out into the darkening streets, the candle in the lantern glows and shadows slither across the streets of this very old city. Brace yourself; you are about to experience first-hand the ghosts in the Colonial Williamsburg area.

The Original Ghosts of Williamsburg™ is the second-oldest ghost tour in the U.S. and Virginia’s oldest ghost tour. We also offer Virginia’s first Extreme Ghost TourSM for guests who are a little more daring.

Come hear about the ghosts of long-dead residents that still haunt this town. For more than 25 years, both guides and guests have experienced ghostly sightings and unexplainable events as they travel the dark and mysterious streets at night.

The ghost sightings and stories go back as far as anyone can remember. The tours’ talented storytellers bring the experiences to life, drawing guests into the moment, weaving history into the paranormal. You don’t have to believe in ghosts to enjoy the tours, although some nonbelievers have been known to change their minds by the end of the evening.

The Original Ghosts of Williamsburg Tour™ is family-friendly and meets at 8pm in front of the William & Mary Bookstore on Duke of Gloucester Street. This walking tour lasts about an hour and a half and travels along a one-mile route, onto the campus of the College of William & Mary and back into midtown. The cost is $12 per person, and children 6 years and under are free. Active and retired military and public safety personnel are free.

The Extreme Ghost TourSM is crafted for the more daring guest. This tour meets in front of Bruton Parish Church on Duke of Gloucester Street at 9:15pm, and takes about two hours to explore midtown and downtown, including visiting the Gaol. The guides carry and share ghost-hunting equipment; this tour can be intense. The cost is $16 per person, and children 6 years and under are free. Active and retired military and public safety personnel are free.
