Ocean City Area Features

What’s New in Ocean City?

If you’ve been to Ocean City before, there’s no doubt you entertained yourself with some of the area’s classic activities such as strolling the boardwalk or visiting an amusement park. While those are still appealing options, it’s 2019 and new things are happening. Whether you’re on the lookout for a new restaurant, an untried activity, or just some new insight, we can point you in the right direction.

Pip: OC’s Celebrity Cat

What rescue cat is making waves all over Ocean City, MD? Why, it’s Pip! This cute little guy visits various locations via backpack with his owners and makes friends wherever he goes. With thousands of followers on Facebook, Pip is introducing locals and visitors alike to the area. And now he even has a book! Pip “wrote” a book for kids about all the attractions and sights that he has been to in the area including Ocean Gallery and the Ocean City Life-Saving Station Museum. Pip was recently the guest of honor at a rocket launch at Wallops Island, VA. Proceeds from his stardom benefit charities involving animal rescue centers and nursing homes.

New Cinema

Moviegoers will love having a new venue to visit to watch the latest summer blockbusters. Flagship Cinemas is opening a new theater complex at the White Marlin Mall in West Ocean City.  This state-of-the-art facility will have hot food, a refillable soda station, reserved seats, and cushioned, power reclining chairs with ottomans. The films are shown using current technology that features the best in digital projection and sound.

Beach Ball Golf

Nick’s Mini Golf is preparing to open its fourth Ocean City course in the summer of 2019. Get ready to swing your club and putt around obstacles at Beach Ball Golf on 45th Street. This summer-themed mini golf park is decorated in all the cool things you would find at the oceanfront including surfboards and (of course) beach balls!

New Rules on Mako Fishing

Anyone who is casting a line for mako sharks needs to know a new restriction that has been put into effect by NOAA Fisheries. While you’re busy reeling in your catch,  pay attention to whether it’s male or female. Male shortfin mako sharks must be a minimum regulation size of 71”. That’s changed from a previous rule of 54”. Females must be a minimum of 83” but this is unchanged from previous years. How can you tell the difference between male and female mako sharks? The male has 2 appendages that help it to latch on to the female. The trick is trying to spot this while battling the shark onto the boat!

New Restaurants

There are a few new places to grab a delicious bite to eat and a refreshing beverage in Ocean City! If you’re looking to try something different, here are some of the area’s newest restaurants:

  • Omega Eats on 26th Street
  • The Treehouse Bar & Pub on Baltimore Avenue near the inlet
  • Bad Monkey in West Ocean City
  • Shotti’s Point Rhino Chaser Cafe on the Boardwalk at 6th Street
