Outer Banks Area Features

Ocean Atlantic Rentals

40 Years of Service

Forty years ago, Greg Honeycutt had a great idea. He knew that travelers to the Outer Banks often tried to bring large, bulky beach items with them that were difficult to fit in a vehicle and always had sand clinging to them after each use. So, he decided to help the vacationers out by renting items to them. That’s when Ocean Atlantic Rentals (OAR) was born. Honeycutt and his wife, Eden started providing the classic beach chair with a blue canvas seat and an oak frame to anyone who requested to rent one. Umbrellas, boogie boards, mopeds, were also available from the businesses inception, but it didn’t stop there. Now, it’s possible to rent baby equipment, surfboards, grills, pet kennels, linens—you name it!

Throughout the years, the items that Ocean Atlantic Rentals has available has grown to carry just about everything that their clients have requested. Eden often remarked that in the early days of the business, Greg would rent-out personal items from around the house. She would come home and find that he had loaned out their furniture or appliances while she was gone to make sure their clients had what they needed.

Today, the company can provide a concierge service with its rentals so the heavy lifting is done for you. OAR will deliver, and set-up anything you rent from them. They can even provide golf carts for you to get around in or service a cart you brought with you to the Outer Banks.

As the business expanded, so did the company’s management and customer service. Blake Buchert, the company’s vice president began working for the Honeycutts in the late 80s. Eden met Blake while he was working at a nearby store. She was so impressed with his customer service skills, she “stole him” to work at OAR! His wife Christen even contributed to the Ocean Atlantic Rentals business by testing products needed for babies and young children such as strollers, cabanas with cribs, and bicycles with child seats when their children were young.

Chris Marik and his wife, Heather started coming to the Outer Banks as college students beginning in 1991 and both worked there each summer. Upon graduation, Chris Marik computerized the company and now as general manager develops the business’ print, website and social media marketing.

Just like Greg Honeycutt, Ocean Atlantic Rentals also has an entrepreneurial spirit and grows naturally based on what the customers need. It’s no wonder their motto is “Just Rent It!”—they have it all! In fact, the business made a huge leap into the wedding market about 15 years ago. OAR’s main showroom in Kill Devil Hills has samples and displays set up so that a dream destination wedding can become a reality. Wedding tents, chairs, arches, dance floors, and even access to wedding designers and vendors can be found there. Anyone who is hoping to have a destination wedding on the Outer Banks will be able to do it effortlessly and in style.

Simply ask and Ocean Atlantic Rentals will probably be able to see that you have access to every item you could possibly want during your stay in the Outer Banks. With locations in Corolla, Duck, KDH and Avon, your beach needs will be met from Corolla to Hatteras. For more information, visit oceanatlanticrentals.com or OAREvent.com. Then, relax and let the rental professionals handle everything for you.
